Kyle did some numbers crunching and says that on a 60 second course that is nothing but curves, the car is 1.2 seconds quicker with the aero. Not bad.

loose, caught your splitter endplates on MGexp.......2.4seconds per run = trophy hey on the rear taillight openings you trimmed the flat portion out....are the remaining vertical panels under the opening even worth ventilating(cut out with expanded metal inserts)for additional unrestricted airflow from the rear fender wells??

In reply to 759NRNG:

I think you mean 1.2 seconds per lap, don't you? I am not going to cut out any more of those openings, I think it would be ugly and there wouldn't be enough fiberglass left to properly support the fender beneath that area.

2.4 per lap....just goofin' ,but in theory the end plates should plant the front resulting in quicker times overall , no?

I made a video of the whole build, from V12 to V8 and now with 4 cylinder power. If you don't want to spend 8 hours reading a build thread, just watch this https://www.youtube.com/embed/Nl5bq5ugdfY

In reply to 759NRNG:

When I used to drive around with the V12 and V8, I could be really aggressive with the car but this turbo engine tends to hang a little bit when I lift off the throttle, and that is more than a little frightening. The only tires that get any heat are the rears from lighting them up out of the turns. It is just burning fuel, I learn nothing from driving around the kart track. Have thought about making up some shirts for myself and my wife but I doubt we would sell enough to justify a bulk purchase.

The long moral of the story- perhaps it's better to start from scratch.

Heck of a job.

Not that I'm planning on building anything, but reading through the DM and EM rules, it's hard to figure which direction to go if one was going to build around something like an X 1/9. Not even sure which class would be the better fit.... DM seems for smaller engines, even with restrictors when running boost.

Yes, I think if you are going into a highly competitive class like EM, it is better to start from scratch because every part needs to be optimized. In a class like BM or DM, buying an existing race car and tweaking it to fit the rules would probably work better. EX-Sports racer for BM and Lotus 7 clone for DM. If you plan on going into DM or EM with your Fiat, there will be very little Fiat left by the time you're competitive in either class. How about one of the Street Modified classes?

People spot the Panther in the corner of my track and want to see it. I always oblige and give a little tour but even after I say "I built it from scratch" far too many of them follow up with "Did you buy it as a kit?" or "Who built your frame?" or any number of other dumb questions. I just slapped a couple of these stickers on, but I doubt they will make a difference.

Maybe, but I'm too impatient to take so much time fitting, fiddling, removing, fiddling, installing, marking, removing, fiddling, etc, etc. I can't Tig nearly as well as those guys but I have an application form in front of me for a full time welding course so maybe I can fix that. I'm not mad at people for asking, it's flattering to think I have built something that looks so good, people think it must be built by someone else. Once in while people ask me if my track (Speedworld Indoor Kart Track) is a chain because it looks pretty good, and it's flattering.

Finally! The car comes out of the shop and is going to an event this weekend. I'm biased but I think the car has never looked better now that the front track width is increased, front fenders cut and there is a smooth surface from the grill all the way to the spoiler.

Yes, we are building up the value of our business and when we sell, we will move to the USA. My wife's mom is older and not in great health so that will delay any move because she has no other family here.
