HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SOUTH CAROLINA; August 1, 2019 —-Today, The Hilton Head Island Concours d’Elegance and Motoring Festival announces an exciting new addition to their 2019 event. The Driving Young America Boulevard, Powered by Castrol® will exhibit youth-oriented activities and showcase two academic scholarship programs to support growth in automotive-related fields. Two of the world’s most innovative automotive aftermarket brands, Michelin and Castrol have joined forces to drive interest with young people, focusing on technician advocacy and mobility design.

"Castrol is thrilled to partner with the 2019 Hilton Head Motoring Festival to bring national exposure to Driving Young America,” said Keith Coultrap, Marketing Manager – Advocacy & Innovation with BP Lubricants USA Inc. “Cultivating young people’s interest in the automotive industry is a key initiative to ensure future technicians continue to recognize Castrol more than any other brand of motor oil. The Driving Young America Boulevard Powered by Castrol will showcase how Castrol and our like-minded partners remain relevant in a rapidly changing marketplace.”

This will be the third year the Michelin Junior Challenge Design Contest for Beaufort County, SC High School Students makes its mark among the events on Hilton Head Island. The Michelin Junior Challenge Design program is derived from the international Michelin Challenge Design contest, a premier global transportation design contest that provides visionary minds to bring us a look into the future of mobility.

The 2019 Michelin Junior Challenge Design theme is “FROM HERE TO THERE” – taking on the design of all things mobility and partnering with Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum. This year the Smithsonian’s Educational Team will work with local teachers and students to give them the tools to create, innovate and design for the challenge.

This program is quickly becoming a model for how to engage young designers,” said Ben Ebel, Michelin Challenge Design chairman. “Each year we have seen progressively more mature designs coming from these students, not in major markets across the country, but right in Beaufort County. We know that to achieve the mobility vision of the future, we need progressive input from all perspectives. The inclusion of new program partners, Castrol and the Smithsonian Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, is a testament to how companies that are invested in the future of mobility put an importance in developing a connection with young, creative minds. These young people will truly determine how the next generation illustrates our theme of ‘From here to there’.”

Spectators and enthusiasts can explore this year’s design entries on both Saturday & Sunday (Nov. 2 & 3) at the Port Royal Golf Club in the Driving Young America Boulevard Powered by Castrol to include live judging of the Michelin Junior Challenge Design program, with industry-leading designers on Sunday (Nov. 3). The entries will also be on display during the Autoweek’s Design Among the Stars event on Saturday (Nov. 2) night at The Sea Pines Resort. For tickets visit hhiconcours.com.

These partnerships enrich our community far beyond our ten-day event each fall. The knowledge, enthusiasm, tools and techniques that come together for our students will foster their imaginations and provide a roadmap for their future in mobility. It is very thrilling to recognize their accomplishments and everyone who views their work will be impressed by the passion and imagination they have” said Carolyn Vanagel Hilton Head Island Concours d’Elegance and Motoring Festival President. “We are honored to be part of the process and inspired by their vision of the automotive world.”
