21 Bucks Well Spent

Huge impacts don’t always have to be paired with huge bills. Last night we replaced our Porsche’s shifter bushings. After 26 years they were showing their age; they’re common wear items on these cars.

The complete replacement process took us about 5 hours—that includes getting distracted and eating some pizza—but the parts bill was fair. The full set of shifter bushings cost us only $21. The shift action is now much, much better.

While we were in there, we also replaced the inner and outer shift coupler boots. These two rubber boots provide a seal between the transmission input shaft and the interior of the car. One was simply missing, and the other was tired. Both parts added about $32 to the tally.
