Concours on the Avenue Takes A Big Turn

On Tuesday, August 21, The Concours On The Avenue turned a corner, seemed to develop a whole new personality after mixed reviews in 2017.

Last year, we reported that the event had turned into a Porsche party, with common cars being the rule rather than the exception. Sure, there were rare cars scattered in their midst, but the overall show didn’t really wow us the way we’d hoped.

This year? Every spot seemed filled with some pretty cool and eclectic machinery. Held in downtown Carmel By The Sea, as part of Monterey Car Week, this year’s event contained more rare, one-of-one and famous cars than we have ever encountered at this growing show.

The Concours on the Avenue is free, so throngs of people made seeing the show an exercise in “Pardon me,” or “Excuse me.” But it was worth it for the rows of racing cars that included famous Trans-Am, Can Am, IMSA and SCCA race cars.

Presented by Acura and held in a quaint, upscale suburb of Monterey, this show has been a staple of Car Week since 2004.
