In May of 1977, Janet Guthrie made Indy Car history by becoming the first woman to qualify for the Indianapolis 500.

Guthrie would continue her Indy career through 1979, with highlights including a 9th place finish in the 1978 Indy 500 as well as a 5th place finish in the 1979 Tony Bettenhausen 200–using this very Lola T500.

Power comes from a turbocharged Cosworth V8 engine that’s mated to a Hewland four-speed gearbox.

The T500 would later undergo a “meticulous restoration” to “correct specifications” by Ray Evernham in his race shop in Mooresville, North Carolina.

Today, this Lola is noted to be eligible for Vintage Indy and SVRA vintage racing.

Find this 1979 Lola T500 Cosworth Indy Car up for auction from Mecum on January 18.
