A Bristol 401 Superlegerra previously owned by Sir Brian May of Queen

Sir Brian May has done far more than impact the music industry as guitarist and co-founder of Queen. He also has a PhD in astrophysics, is a renowned expert in stereophotography and, apparently, a collector of Bristol cars. Vehicles from that collection, including this 1949 Bristol 401 Superlegerra, are now up for auction.

Bodied by Touring of Milan, this 401’s styling is said to have influenced the design of the Alfa Romeo Freccia d’Oro (Golden Arrow).

May purchased the Bristol in the early 1980s, just after the height of his music fame with Queen but long before his days of coauthoring books on stereophotography and serving as Chancellor of Liverpool John Moores University.

Find this 1949 Bristol 401 Superlegerra up for auction at Brightwells. For reference, Hagerty currently values similar examples in No. 4 condition at $25,500.
