What if Ghia had designed the body of a Jaguar XK140? Well, it’s not a what if, as they did, with four examples, this being the first of those.
While it looks little like a typical Jaguar XK140, it also weighs less than the Jaguar design, roughly 200 pounds the lighter. That’s because the body is constructed out of aluminum rather than steel. This example appeared at the 1955 Paris Motor Show as well as the 1956 Cannes Concours d’Elegance. A minor accident in 1959 resulted in the front-end styling you see today, with a large grille, dual Lucas fog lights and additional vents atop the front fenders.
Roland Urban, a noted collector, Jaguar historian and former president of the Jaguar Drivers Club of France bought the car in 1969. He upgraded the engine to a 3.8-liter version with triple Weber carbs, and later added a D-type cylinder head and Dunlop disc brakes. In 1979, the Jaguar went into storage where it remained until being acquired by the current owner in 2021.
Find this 1955 Jaguar XK 140 Ghia Coupe for auction at Broad Arrow Auctions, with an estimated value of €200,000-€300,000 (approximately $225,000-$340,000 USD).
