Italian automaker Cisitalia lasted just 17 years, from 1946 to 1963, but it quietly left its mark on automotive history. For example, a Cisitalia 202 is part of the Museum of Modern Art’s permanent collection. Another overlooked example is the 505 DF by Ghia. The company is believed to have made less than 10 examples and only two are known to still exist. This is one of them.

This Cisitalia was inspired by Giovanni Savonuzzi’s Ghia-Ford coupe prototype. The 505 DF used a Fiat 1900 as it foundation, hence the DF name (derivata Fiat).

In 2011, the Cisitalia underwent more than $230,000 worth of restoration. That effort earned it the Best Restored Car award at the 2014 Schloss Bensberg Classics concours.

Find this 1953 Cisitalia 505 DF by Ghia for auction at RM Sotheby’s, with an estimated value of €200,000-€240,000 (approximately $225,000-$270,000 USD).
