That catchy tune that’s probably now stuck in your head? You have Gordon Mills to thank for that song, “It’s Not Unusual.” And this Mercedes-Benz 280 SE was once his, too.
Mills is best known for making stars out promising musical acts. Raymond O’Sullivan turned into Gilbert O’Sullivan. Arnold Dorsey turned into Englebert Humperdinck. And Thomas Woodward turned into Tom Jones. He also wrote several songs, including co-writing that 1965 hit “It’s Not Unusual.”
Mills kept this Mercedes at his U.K. mansion, where he also kept gorillas, orangutans and tigers. Before his passing, he gifted the car to his daughter and it’s stayed with the same family since then. This example is fairly rare, too, as it’s just one of 68 right-hand-drive 280 SE 3.5 Convertibles.
Find this 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280 SE 3.5 Convertible for auction at Bonhams, with an estimated value of £150,000-£200,000 (approximately $200,000-$270,000 USD).
