Most people already know four-time Indianapolis 500 winner A.J. Foyt, but do they know the car that led him to his first win?
Well, this 1959 Kurtis-Epperly Offenhauser allowed Foyt to secure his first Indy car championship in 1960 as well as two second-place finishes at Milwaukee and a third-place finish at Trenton.
Foyt isn’t the only driver who drove this car. Jud Larson and Don Freeland both sat behind its wheel, Freeland securing a third-place Milwaukee finish in 1959.
Built by Frank Kurtis in 1959 and modified by Quin Epperly in 1960, this roadster stands eligible for Vintage Indy and Miller Meet vintage Indy car events and is accompanied by a binder of its race history at the Indianapolis 500 for 1959 and 1960.
Find this 1959 Kurtis-Epperly Offenhauser Indy car for auction by Mecum on January 18.
