Frank Beddor Jr., Audi Club of North America founder, had a family in Minnesota who loved to participate in motorsports. Audi wanted to parlay its success in WRC over to the U.S. When Beddor asked for five Audi Sport quattros for his family, Audi saw an opportunity and complied. Keep in mind Audi made just 164 Sport quattros.

Famed Porsche/Audi competition manager Jo Hoppen organized the effort to send this car to Dieter Inzenhofer, of famed tuning house Andial. He upped the power of the car by 145 horsepower over stock, to a total of 449, with a ported-and-polished cylinder head, different camshafts, Motronic ECU, optimized K27 turbocharger, and a proprietary exhaust and intake.

Beddor’s son David drove this example, dubbed “The Red Devil,” from 1986 to 1998. His biggest win came at the Ferrari Club of America’s Virginia City Hill Climb. There he topped many of Maranello’s best, winning the event by a whopping 12 seconds over a Ferrari F40.

Find this 1984 Audi Sport quattro for auction at RM Sotheby’s, with an estimated value of $400,000-$500,000.
