I'd leave the patina & rebuild it mechanically.

Anybody remember the little flooding problem in Nola a few years ago?

Sorry, but to me this looks like a classic flood victim. Soaked nose down for weeks? months?

Does it really matter? Add 100% more VQ45DE (thanks to the Atlanta CL post...) and a set of 15x8 Rota RBs with some icky sticky rubber...

And don't touch the paint.

Gonzales is 60 miles northwest of New Orleans and 80 feet higher but I suppose this car could have been moved.

"....but I suppose this car could have been moved."

How about, maybe it floated to Gonzales?

If the hood and front fenders have "surface rust" and the interior is badly decayed, I don't even want to think about what the underside of this car looks like.

I don't recall if this car had a 5 speed or not, but its perfect car for using as an engine/ tranny transplant to something else.

1600s had 4 speeds. 2000s had 5 speeds IIRC

I seriously wish I had the 4 place pole barn already. There would be a Cortina and THAT sitting side by side. Both with V6 Ford powah!

Yes I do.

AND I do realize that I own a welder and actually modified a SPL311 frame to accept a small block chevrolet under the hood, I know where there is a complete Miata suspension and am not afraid of biting off more than I can chew.

Then why start with a rat? Why put that much work into one that far gone instead of finding a much better one for $2500 and starting there, thus having a much nicer car when done?

I know you understand Challenge book keeping. Starting with a $2500.00 car puts me over budget. Granted I WOULD need to actually finish it but that is just getting into semantics ;)

My guess is that car will need the entire brake system (Calipers, rotors, master cylinder, etc) to even have a chance of stopping. That will set you back $1600...

You are better off buying it for $350-400 and parting out the car and buying something better.

I bought a $128 1968 Datsun Roadster "2000" and grossed over $2,000. Of course ebay and paypal sucked up some of the profit. Shoot; I am cleaning up some junk laying around the basement and a 240Z used hood latch is going for $36.00.

so on a similar vein, I should keep the patina (read rust) on this and just throw in the 289 I have sitting around?

I found this while looking for a hammer in my garage.
