FMV/SELF TRADE...4r70w to 4l80e

Hey all,

Im building a challange 4.8 ls mustang. I still have a bunch of leftover parts from previous ls mustang build. Would I be able to trade the 4r70w from the mustang for a stock 2wd 4l80 in the garage? 

is everyone ok with...

$200 price for 4r70w?

$300 for the 4l80e?

I would be able to trade and then have to add $100 to the budget, correct?

what did you pay for the 4l80? 

I would say a good 4l80 is in significantly higher demand then a 4r70w and we've had trouble finding good used outside of the junkyard for  <$500. Location probably plays a big part though they are definitely more common for cheap in the northeast due to the rust

I had no idea of 4r70w values. I know for people like me I'd just go to the yard and grab either one for the same price. That option isn't available to a lot of people. I looked on eBay real quick and seems 4r70ws are about $200 less than 4l80es. Just a quick look but seems like $550 vs $750. That said I'm always surprised at transmission prices on eBay.

I think that's a fair trade, $300 for a 4l80 is not unheard of. Anyone who pays over $400-500 for a 4l80 is a sucker or is in a pinch.

If you go that route you can just FMV it yourself using Ebay completed listings.  Yes I love quoting rules so in order not to disappoint others we have:

All fair market values used must be proved in your build book with supporting documentation. Ways to prove fair market value include:

• Copies of corporate listings of similar items for sale.

• Copies of at least three comparable listings from a peer-to-peer selling website (eBay, Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, etc.)

• A copy of a GRM message board thread where at least 5 users with more than 50 posts have agreed with a proposed fair market value for your item.

Note the rules don't say completed listings but several of us use completed instead of listed price because it seems more realistic of a real world price.

I don't understand, if you paid $300 for the transmission and are using it for the build, why would it be anything other then $300? am i missing something? The original transmission that you aren't using sounds irrelevant
