NMNA. Perfect age for a legal import, and it even has the engine in the right spot!

1989 Skoda 135GLi - Czechoslovakian Project Car - $500 (White Rock)
For sale is a project 1989 Skoda 135Gli. This is a rear-engine Czechoslovakian car from the last days of the Communist era.
This is a VERY rare car. 181 135GLi's were imported to Canada in 1988-89 out of rough 350 built worldwide (the rest went to Finland and Austria). Compared to the regular Skoda 120, the 135GLi features throttle body fuel injection, all aluminium engine, improved rear suspension and brakes. [ http://skodacanada.ca/SkodaInformation.html ]
The car is located in White Rock BC (on the WA/BC border near Bellingham). It was actually manufactured early in 1988, so it should now be importable to the USA.
This is a *project* car. The interior is mostly stripped (but included), the body itself is solid with only a few spots of surface rust (no cutting/welding needed) but it does need significant mechanical work (transmission won't stay in 5th/R, etc...)
This is best suited for someone who wants to restore the car, or build it into something new (rally car, dune buggy, etc...).
Please e-mail this ad with questions. Serious buyers only please. This was tentatively sold, but the deal fell through.
Thank you.

I think I need to move to Portland. There are too many cool cars up there.
How is this not already a Lemons racer?

That thing is ugly, I can't get behind this at all(unless it needs a push off a cliff).

Ugly is in the eye of the beholder. If you really wanted a four door car, prefer rear engines, like 80s styling, and have an affinity for cars from strange places, this thing is a frickin' gold mine! Also, because race car.
Seriously, I'm having a hard time thinking of a rear engine sedan made more recently. Seems like a great piece of history to me!

I honestly did not realize that was a rear-engined car. It's SO much cooler now!
I would totally rock that if I was looking for a project right now - WOW!
I think it's cool. Like Bryce said, what other 1980's sedan is rear engined with a stick? Swap a Subaru drivetrain in there somehow and go!
I wonder what kind of transmission and what final drive and ratios it has.
When I had mine, a mechanic at the local dealership made his own adapter plate, and put a 2.0 Nissan motor in his. It went pretty good. After about a year of comuting with it, I got the crazy idea of swapping in a Diesel Rabbit motor. After looking at a lot of cars and parts, I just ended up buying a Rabbit and driving it.
I don't know what the final drive was, but from what I recall, it's probably in the 4.10-4.30 range.
In reply to Ditchdigger:
Think VW bug for the box. Short for the ratios, probably out of gear by 85-90mph.
In reply to Kenny_McCormic:
But it is a 5 spd. I am assuming by almost 1990 someone other than Porsche had probably figured out a decent rear engined trans that wasn't 5:11 gears and no overdrive ratio.
Granted it is Czech but I can hope.
I love me crappy euro-trash rear engine cars and I can keep throwing all the horsepower in the world at them but they still top out at around 80mph and are intolerable on the freeway. The Renault 5/Le Car 5spd is a decent option but are unicorns, a freeway flier bug trans is the only sub $2000 option but still revs too high for what I want and the gears are a bit wide for sub 1 liter motors.
Pretty awesome, I passed this one on to my old boss who has a '66 Skoda.
