From reading the ad i can't tell if it comes with an engine and trans or not.

Sounds like a roller, no engine-tranny.  But for another $1200 or so, buy a GM 4X4 with a ft. box and plop the wagon on it.

Or something lke this.

The way I understand it, $1200 without motor and trans, $1700 with.

I am concerned as to why this is so cheap, all I can figure is that it has insurmountable rust issues. The only real hint is under that left rear taillight. At face value, this seems like a screaming deal.

Shame about the rust. I had a 68 that looked half decent but the frame had about a foot missing from the bottom of it on each side. I love these cars. I’ll buy another one some day.

Contacted the seller, he was overwhelmed by the responses.  He hasn't pulled the engine yet, the factory 289 is still in there and the whole package could be yours for $1700.  The interior is stock black, says he will post pictures.

Anyone want a partially disassembled 1972 Saab project?

The Saab might cause less heartbreak.

As dculberson mentioned, the frames are known to rot out on these, real bad.   I've seen nice bodies with large sections of frame gone back in the '70s.

Would a P71 donate it's frame and running gear to solve the problem?

Uh, asking for a friend. wink

I was going to mention that, but I was pretty sure that the wheelbases where different and didn't have the time to fall down the rabbit hole of figuring out which Panther platform would fit best.

But since you brought it up, and now I have a little more time...

I think you would be looking for a P70 (LWB Vic)  that would net you about 120" WB.  The wagon in the ad should be 119"

(Note, while the taxicab version is the most common, there were police versions of the P70, but they still weren't called "P71")

The P71 is 114", and a Town Car is 117"

That doorjam tells the story.   And I don't think there is going to be a happy ending.

Yeah, that's rougher than mine was. Mine was far from perfect but it didn't have rust in the door jams. And mine wasn't worth restoring without major frame work.

I'd be there tomorrow if it wasn't 12 hours away. Price?

I drove 10 hours out and 10 back in a snow storm for a car.

I didn't buy the expensive wagon that I thought I wanted, bought a Chevy wagon for $3500 so I'm going to finish the Saab.

Marc, The engine is painted, the engine bay is cleaned up, but I still can't get paperwork.  I have the previous owner's contact info, but he passed away about 12 years ago.  My son paid $1200 for the 96, I swapped a running 900s for the 96.

Before it's sold it will run.  New tank sender unit, fuel pump, some others.  I'll put it up when it's all assembled but I have no idea its value.

You'll need to log in to post.
