Right now I need a pickup truck and a high mpg commuter... not a convertible, haggard FoxBody with a wtf engine swap. The idea of having a FoxStang vert is cool but I'm sure the reality of it would be infuriating.

Are you sure they weren't offering to give you a Crown-Vic in exchange for dragging that poor hacked 'stang away?
I'm sure you could find a better convertible 'stang for similar money. That engine is screaming run away. There is no legit reason* to get rid of the factory EFi.
