Trimmed the heat shield 3/4 in to accommodate the tips which were wider than anticipated.

Sanded, high temp black and did the tips as well. I'm hoping the high temp paint holds up well now that the pipes are much cooler. Popped the exhaust "diaper" back on and it got its second oil change in my ownership while it was up. 2 year interval and right at 1200 miles.

The improvements you made really make the Ferrari look great. I was just on BH car club this morning to look at Mondials. They have a few but they out of my price range. You scored!

It's 41 years old so no.

Thanks. I'm probably done with performance stuff for a minute and I'll be doing more cosmetics and maintenance over the winter. Going through the electrics, drivers window motor, and a few other odds and ends. I don't want to take it too far apart since Georgia "winter" is actually the best driving weather for this car.
The last nice camera photos of this car was two years ago when it was stock in the Anchorage "skyline". Last week, Evan from @atl.cars captured me out in the Atlanta skyline at midnight. Some lower res ones:

Great shots! Such a cool car. And the amount of headroom you have in the car is amazing. Are the factory seats really that low?
I was having issues with hot starts and apparently Bosch starters of this era all had issues with the electrical load with long drives. Do a long drive and stop for the gas and 50/50 shot it starts back up. I'd have to wait 20 minutes for it to cool down then back to normal. There was a WR1 relay for this specific issue.

I threw it on and it fixed the hot start issue. I kind of tucked it away and grounded it on the frame but put the relay and fuse in a spot where I should be able to reach it even being that low.

This makes driving the car a little more practical and I don't have to plan ahead so much.

I bet your car was a hit at that Perc Coffee show! I recognize that lot.

It's close by the house and I know a route to get there without ripping the front bumper off.
I really like the car and your story that you've told about having it. I have a strange question about the back seat is it comfortable? I was always surprised by my RX8 having a very comfortable back seat it looked like it wouldn't be.
Man this thing is so cool. What is the function of the hot start relay?

Thanks! The backseat is ok but best for kids under 7.

This kit eliminates completely the voltage drop through the terminations and connectors of the ignition switch, neutral safety switch, bulkhead connector, etc. This can be a huge factor on an older vehicle or even a brand new wiring harness that uses cheap thin-wall brass terminals vs OEM grade tin-plated parts. This kit is also perfect for vehicles with big headers where they are in close proximity to the starter.
There are few things more frustrating than your vehicle not wanting to start. One of the most common causes of this is heat soaking the starter solenoid trigger lead. Factory trigger leads can be as small as 12 AWG and some starter solenoids can draw up to 30A – a bad combination when big headers are nearby.
This kit includes everything to solve this problem once and for all!
This is the best description of it. Helps prevent hot starting issues.
That same thing works on 2nd gen rx7s where the load goes through the ignition switch.
Winter off-season trip to Italy and Switzerland. Since I was in the neighborhood, I stopped by where the party started.

I got a little collection of ads from the 40s-60s as a little souvenir:

Not a lot of Mondial content from Modena to Maranello at the museums but we did make the wallpaper.

I love the Modena museum, much better than the Maranello. If you get a chance take a tour at Pagani. It is amazing
It's warming up here in Atlanta and like clockwork it's time for the drivers window motor to completely fail.

Carefully (I thought) pulled the motor out and clamped the cables to prevent unraveling.

The factory grease on these turns to cement you have to soak and then chisel out. .
Cleaned, lubed, and tested to be spinning great again.

This car has a newer motor from 1988 in it so somebody was in here before.

Reassembly sucked. Not enough slack, too much slack. Window sliding down, brace the window up but now I need to lower it 3 inches to get the tension right while holding the window motor. The cable pops off all the pulleys so my quick in and out motor rejuvenation is now going to be a multi weekend thing. I'm so tempted to just pull the glass out and deal with it again this fall. That's something a Mondial person would do. I may temporarily be that person.
That looks as crazy a cable path as the original Europa brake line setup is crazy!
Yup, the 308 has the same setup. That was the only really PITA job that I did on mine. Otherwise maintenance on that car wasn't too bad.

A buddy helped a ton with an extra hand for the cables and after 4 times in a out, a little new wiring and playing with the switcharoos, I have all the windows going again and faster than ever.
Needs a good detail then it's ready for camping at the Mitty next weekend.

I love/hate encountering engineering solutions before the right, more reliable tech was found. King pins v. ball joints is one that sticks out to me but a Rube Goldberg-esque cable setup for the window mechanism is a good example too.
Nice job working through it.
Camping at the Mitty 2025 is in the books. It may look like every year I post the same pictures and that's kind of the point. It's always on the calendar and always a great time with friends. Stuff changes, life changes.... but it's nice to have some fun constants to look forward to.
I was too lazy to bring a tent so I slept in the back of my buddies Scout with a tarp and we had torrential downpours overnight Friday for a few hours. Everybody stayed dry and weather was perfect the rest of the time. 🍻

Awesome pics! Thanks for the share. This is one of my favorite threads. Having a Ferrari is like a far away dream but you seem to bring it closer to being attainable and you do awesome things with it regularly!

Thanks! It's been a blast the last 3 years.
Your crew has a really cool collection! I've raced at Road Atlanta a couple of times (both during terrible weather), but I'd like to get up there for a weekend as a spectator - Petit Lemans, Mitty, or Gridlife. They all look like a really fun time.
