I've had my second E36 for 9 months now, and I finally decided to do a build thread on it. It's supposed to be a fun daily drive that can hold it's own in SCCA Solo autocross, STX class. It's a solid mid-pack contender now and just needs tires to be a local front runner.
When I first picked her up.
Autocross/summer wheels immediately went on it. I did as many autocross events as my schedule could allow. That meant nearly one every weekend!
I slapped on a 2.93 LSD and also lowered it on coilovers.
Now I'm waiting for these parts to be installed next week!

Will be interested to hear how that exhaust set up sounds. I've been hesitant to make any changes to my 325i because I didn't a loud, droning noise maker.

Finally this thing will get grip. Also have an eBay short shifter and intake going on it coming next month. I want to make the DC Champ tour so I hope the car is ready by then. I think there is a regionally competitive car in it, as long as I can wheel it around right.

And here is a comparison between my fastest clean run and fastest dirty run. It really emphasizes how running tight can make up tons of time. When you pause at the elements, you can see I'm nearly even on the way down but make up .8 seconds on the way back.

Haven't been updating this thread much as I haven't seen much activity on it. Anyhow, did a 2 day event with Philly SCCA. I PAX'd 12th (!!!) on day 1 and 23rd on day 2. Out of 130 people, I'm happy now that I know the car has pace. I just have to wring the last few tenths out of it.

Did you install the short shifter? If so how do you like it? I'm considering one for my newly acquired '93 325.
Yep! Here's a video of when I first installed it. I've done 4k miles since then with many autocross events. Doesn't feel like it will fall apart yet.

Did you do anything to the oil pump?
No, it's not on my list of to-do items since I can't weld. I've only heard of oil pump nut failures for often-tracked cars that stay at high RPM. Mine stays in 2nd gear for ~40 seconds and then idles again for 15 minutes.

Torched out the subframe bushings. Now I need to get the front differential bushing torched or drilled/sawed out. Any tips on that?

Subframe bushings are out. Color has been chosen. But I moved to work on the front end so I wouldn't get burned out working on just the subframe.
Guess where I get my inspiration from?
