I like contrast between the center section and the rim. The center can be a different color, dark, or maybe dull compared to the polished rim. The Rallyes(sp) would be awesome painted body color with polished rim and center. That would be a custom nod to old school work trucks.

D windows or soft 8s will always look good on an older pickup.

17 inch wheels. 255/55/17 is a 28 inch tall tire, 255/50/17 is 27.

My personal preference is to set the ride height and fender gap where the rocker is level to the ground, and the tires fill the wheelwell without being tucked.

My gmt400 is 2/4, 17x8 on 245/60/17

This truck is on 20s and it still looks spectacular.

Danger. I am pretty happy with the way the front of the truck looks. It's a week or so away from buying more epoxy primer and 2K primer. I am pretty pumped. I'll finish some spots over the next few days and then scuff the interior.

I've been looking at a lot of C10s lately, and this one has risen to the top of my list for stance/wheel/tire combo for a restomod type of street truck:

The wheels are 17" billet aluminum replicas of factory steelies from Circle Racing that accept factory hubcaps. They're lightweight, and custom backspacing, etc so they should perform well and they fill the wheel wells with proper spacing and a decent overall diameter. I'd probably lift the front of the truck up an inch or so and consider just a bit more sidewall if it were mine, but the overall look is about perfect for the truck that I've built in my mind.

I don't love those, but they have some others I do like. Where to do you buy them? I can't find them anywhere.

Tires can come later, time to saddle up and point the color gun at that thing!

( sorry, feeling cocky cause I started to paint the hot rod and need to share the pain!)

It's coming. I know I can do the epoxy again outside, and on the inside. I believe I can do 2K primer and get to wet sanding. I am not sure I can get to color before the winter.

Both reinvigorating my love of the salt flat wheel, and also an interesting study in wheel sizes, this truck has 18" in front and 20" in rear. I think the 18" looks perfect here.

Here is an employee of mine's beater on 16" steelies, I think the 17" is the best mix of cool and big.

I hadn't checked on this thread in a long time and I'm super happy for you and the progress that you've made. Doing all of this AFTER taking care of real life is a huge accomplishment!

Real life definitely gets in the way (tongue in cheek). I know next weekend is busy, so the earliest available time for epoxy and 2K is in two weeks. I'll aim for that. Then I have to figure out if I can do the cab and bed inside and out prepping before winter so I can do color.

What do you want for a tire diameter?

On my C1500 I wanted to stick around stock diameter cause it's only dropped 2/4. Went with 18s.

255/55/18 on 8.5" wheels front and 275/55/18s on 9.5s rear.

One thing to consider when trying to get the wheels flush is the fenders and tires trying to be in the same place over bumps, especially if you're lowering with spindles/shackles etc and keeping the original spring rates.

Anyway, a picture:

Thanks! I think this wheel/widewall ratio is pretty close to ideal. Good call with the flushness of the tires. Right now they are hiding, especially the rear, several inches inboard. I'll fiddle with it and make sure to have clearance everywhere. What brand wheels are those? Some are startlingly expensive.

In sanding last night I finished the gate, and mostly finished the cab corners. I found (remember the bedside is parked next to the cab, so the drivers side of the cab and passenger side of the bed are hard to get to) a dent right on the wheel arch of the bed which I had not noticed previously, so I'll have to remove that wheel tub and knock it out. Other than that it's solid forward progress.

Lots of sanding over the past couple of days. As I go over the truck I keep finding spots that I previously thought were fine, and working on them more. I keep telling myself this will pay dividends later on.
