I've been cruising around this spring and having fun but still struggling the tune. I really don't have faith that the is turbo setup will ever be reliable enough for track duty. Im thinking about selling it all and building an NA with the same motor. I was thinking tall ITBs and top exit long tube headers the snake over the engine and the way back to their exit. Kind of the 1970s F1 look below. Am I crazy to go this far with a turbo setup and turn around?

I don't know about reliability but the ITB and long headers look amazing and would fit your design perfectly.
I say, build what you want!
As a cayman owner, I'm sure that engine NA stock would be a blast in that car, let alone of you wake it up a little and with ITB and long tube headers, it would sound glorious!
Also, would be very curious about doing ITB in 4.2, I am currently putting on in my vw golf, i've always wondered if the heads are the same pattern (or close) to a 1.8t, so might be easy to make flanges or get them made.

I wonder if a pro could get you a more stable tune? It does seem a shame to go so far and never try it with the turbos.

Probably not close. Even all the Audi 4.2 v8s are different. The ABZ does have a 90mm which is the same as most Honda 4 bangers and the same as some 1,000cc bikes. So you could either buy a Honda kit or buy motorcycle throttle bodies and make them work. Nice luxury than something like an LS or Coyote doesn't have.
I took the car on a four hour trip into the mountains over the weekend. Ended up boiling the clutch fluid and loosing the ability to shift due to a clutch line too close to a turbo and I also burned up the ignition switch (had to hot wire it) but otherwise it did great. Did a ton of tuning on the way up and I'm completely rehooked on these turbos. Between the v8 and the turbos it just sounds incredible. I'm slowly getting over looking like Batman going down the street too. We'll see how soon I get frustrated at the reliable this summer
