Ah, so you didn't go into the metal, just into the plastic. Thanks.
Roof rack continues. I was hoping to use the OE feet, I thought that they were stamped steel, but they were aluminum, which means making my own feet.... What a pain in the ass.
Fit pieces into the gutter/pinch weld.
Muscle rack up, and try to get it square on the roof....
Bucket of concrete holds rack steady.
Tack up legs.
Tack on tabs for diffuser
Hoping I can get to powder coat soon....
Took the truck out to look for snow yesterday.
Found it!!
Went for a quick hike
It was a nice day!
Brakes were making lovely noises this weekend, so I grabbed some pads and went to town, or so I thought.... Passenger side was a breeze, done in 10-15 mins. Drivers side not so much.... I was not able to even compress the caliper, it seems a slide pin completely froze.
Applied PB, and blue wrench
Nothing, went inside and watched the football game. Came out after a tried again.....
berkeley you slide pin. I wasn't even remotely able to beat out the stuck piece either. Tried again this morning, no luck. Good thing its not raining and I can take the mr2 in today.
I did make some progress on the rack yesterday. I sleeved 4 holes for bolting the awning on. That way I have a sealed roof rack.
Drill hole.
Cut sleeves, they are thicker than the tube since the square is 1/8" up from the bottom of the round, and the bracket goes across both.
Beat into hole and burn.
Previously my reverse light was on my roof rack. Doesnt work on the new one, and the spoiler threw a big shadow anyway.
So a weekend project it it! Mount the antenna and reverse light, was going on a run Sunday.
Tired these new connectors, They are self adhesive shrink wrap with a loop of low temp solder in them. Slide them on and hit with the heat gun to solder and shrink wrap in one. Worked well, but I would have put a little more solder in.
Fits nicely.
SNOW
It was a good Sunday drive.

Darrington, yeah I dont think there is much of a chance of getting over haller pass and over past Lonesome lake next weekend... It will be a giant winch fest if they try....
Dig the rack!
Where'd ya come across the funky solder/shrink connectors? I have a trailer to rewire shortly and them's could be worth a try.
Nice! The rack turned out really well and I'm sure you could just find any Craigslist fairing that's long enough for it.
Some other sweet Toyotas out there in the snow. I have a soft spot for the 80 with the Conn Ferr rack. Looked like my old one.
In reply to crankwalk:
Thanks! Yeah I need to finish the fairing, I got distracted by other projects...
The 80 is classic, she just finished the Rebelle Rally with it too!
Its looking like a lovely day to play in the snow!
Getting deep!
Lots and lots of stuck traffic.
Going around stuck traffic doesnt work...
Made it to the pass.
Fires were made, kids played in snow, Christmas trees were cut!
Coming down was far more interesting.... There had been a lot of traffic on the lower section and it was POLISHED. I didnt even take any pics.... But lots of sliding, white knuckle driving, chains, getting stuck cars out of the ditch/way so you can go down, digging tow straps etc. Good times.
