as a last note: german engineering is WIERD. i have no idea why they do a lot of stuff the way they do. like the sensor wiring that goes through a plastic box bolted to the intake, then spreads like medusas hair. with no ryhme or reason to the routing.  but yet the injectors are so tightly and cleanly loomed......

Do not question the designs of the Bavarian elves. They know what they're doing and why they're doing it, and that's enough.

I never heard of torx sockets.....   Before the BMW or was it the Volvo, hard to keep track.

It lives!

No more misfires or vacuum leaks that i can tell. Runs real good.

Pics and update tomorrow. Maybe.

Only if funkengruvin and gutentight are legitimate german words.

But, tomorrow will tell! I figured a good test drive should be into three digit miles, right?

Can always do it the hack way and use a 5/8.

There are definitely some oddball-sized fasteners, though the E39 isn't too bad. For example, you'll need 11mm and a 7mm allen for brakes, IIRC (plus some normal sizes). 10mm allen for the diff plugs. But 8/10/13/17/19 still get plenty of use.

Cab Forward Chryslers used a #$@% 16mm. I had to buy a nice wrench set just for them back when I was swappin' and 'droppin in the junkyard.

As always, loving the driveabeater thread.

The more modern cars are full of these. Really annoying.

Awesome.  I would start looking at possible exhaust leaks or it doesn’t like aftermarket sensors and wants OE brand units :/

The 2 up top are either whatever the PO had on it or the 2 Bosch units from Oreilly.  There were codes showing both brand new ones were bad so I replaced them under warranty and now there's only one code.  If you like, go to oreilly and give them my cell (you have it) and tell them it's bad and still under warranty.   The 2 post cat are Ebay mail order Chinese but seem to be working. Hope this helps

2 clarify, the 2 on the car when delivered were new Bosch, the 2 in the bag were what came on the car when I purchased it, for troubleshooting.

The post-cat sensors are far less critical. As long as they're returning some sort of reasonable signal they shouldn't be an issue. Pre-cats, on the other hand, are pretty picky.

Is tgere a way to test the sensor prior to replacement? Just so i can know.

I had to Google that.

Apparently it translates to "do you have a bird?" However, is used in the context of "are you nucking futs?"

In which case, yes. Yes i am. (Said with phineus voice from phineus and ferb)
