How many V-bands will you add to that?

just the two that you see. Will be rigid pipes from the flex couplers to the X pipe. Each muffler will have one hanger. Exhaust removal will be:

  1. remove rear grille
  2. separate V bands
  3. support mufflers with floor jack
  4. remove muffler hangers
  5. lower jack and pull rearward

Angry Garage had a visitor tonight, 84FSP stopped by to pick up the oxygen concentrator for the Hospitallers in Ukraine.

We LOL'd at what a hack I am, and he made some good suggestions for year-6 improvements. I fiddled around with the drivers side pipe a bit and got it to a pretty decent shape:

tomorrow night I'll make final adjustments and tack it together.

Well, it's been a minute since I've had a minute. Ody front end work, Saab muffler and caliper and broken shock mount, etc. Anyway, I spent some time today cleaning up the garage, then got into good enough mode with muffler hangers. Chopped off the originals:

and welded on some crappy parts store ones that will probably break in a month of driving. Which, as Stampie will surely comment, won't happen until 2026.

so there we are, mufflers that are attached to, and supported by, the car they aim to muffle:

Never said a specific date so you can use all 31 of them mofos, plus he's giving you a leap year in 2024 which is like three extra years!

I have the coolest mailman ever. As he pulled up to the mailbox today he yelled out "Hey man, I love the exhaust outlets! Looks like Corvette stuff!" Then he Stampied me. "When's it gonna be done, 2025?"

I made good progress today:

Just a couple more beads and the exhaust will be done. Then wiring and fuel lines. Then first fire.

I don't know? Burn by mailman? That's harsh.

because GRM:

yes, I reattached the broken ground tab via TIG and a wee dab of .025" MIG wire for filler.

That should work.

Yes that will work. When I need K type thermocouples, I just buy the spool of wire and TIG the ends together. Then I can run any length I want and terminate. Saves money on the premade lines that are never the right length. For bonus points, I verified they worked across the temperature range I needed within 1 degree of a bought sensor.

that's smart! We use K type on brake pads and rotors, but we always use the "official" ends.

I think this is the final exhaust task: adding o2 sensor bungs to the header collectors. Marked, step-drilled, and tacked:

and the finished part (well, 1 of 2 anyway):

I'm working on 2 of 2 now, then *finally* moving on to fuel lines!

Wiring and fuel lines are next, then fire in the holes!

Man, that's awesome.  You said that it'll start after the wiring and fuel, at that point is there anything else to keep it from driving?

I don't think so. That's why they include those disposable applicators.

I'll see myself out.

Brake and clutch plumbing, halfshafts, firewall, and a couple bits of shift linkage.

edit: of course I have to pull the powertrain before first fire, as I have to modify the bellhousing for starter nose clearance.

If the back of the car is high enough, although it's a bit unwieldy for one person. Fortunately, I don't have to yet, as the mufflers are still slip-fit to the X pipe. I will add 2 more V bands rather than welding it solid.
