I've been chasing a worsening front end vibration and a wheel bearing going out: so this is happening.....

At work tomorrow I'll press the new bearings in.   I also did an oil change while I was at it.  Transmission fluid drain and fill is planned as well.

Took the spindles into work last Saturday.  It was a real pain in the rear.

Super long cheater bar with a 2 inch 12 point socket clamped onto the spindle nut/ABS ring.  It finally let loose.  We got the old bearings pressed out fairly easily but the inner bearing race was seized on both spindles.

Tried welding a pair of flanges onto it, then went to press on the tabs.  Just broke off, I think it was too oily to get good penetration.

So we put it in the lathe and tried cutting it off....

Finally just got out the death wheel and made several cross cuts and used a chisel to work it off.

Then new bearings went in easy.

After all that, I discovered a loose lower ball joint, So I had to replace that while I was in here:

Then I decided to do some minor performance mod: add a bit of lightness.

Old battery weighs in at 46 pounds.

new (smaller)  battery weighs in at 15 pounds:

After seeing the above pic, I know you're probably thinking "Indy, what the Berk are you doing with Mercedes Benz parts, I thought this was a Jag?"

And you would be correct. However, Jag-you-are used a Mercedes Benz 722.6 transmission in the XJR and I wanted to keep it as OEM as possible. More $$$ for sure, but I don't want to risk my car with cheap Chinese knockoff parts.

Damn, I just saw this thread and you could have used DCX 300/Charger parts, same MB parts.

Thanks for the tip.  I did a fluid drain and fill on the trans today, just as a preventative measure, because I plan on beating on it pretty hard in the burn out box of the drags in a few weeks.

I'd eventually like to tighten up the shifts on the trans, it delays in between gears a bit too much for my tastes (although I'm certain it was designed that way for the discerning British gentleman for a smooth ride)

In reply to Indy-Guy :

Stock programming sucks. The trans itself can handle tons of abuse, if it doesn't leak all its fluid out. Lol

Trying out version 3.0 taking the sponsor panel into consideration. Also, I think the green is dead.  Substituted with silver.

Actual number is probably going to be 44.

I tried this version (3.1) but don't think Tom will allow it because it's behind the rear wheel.

Thanks for the heads up.  I went ahead and ordered the SC tensioner and idler pulleys so I can have them on hand in case they're bad when I get to it this weekend.  Not a lot of room (time wise) for error.  We depart for Gainseville in 7 days!
