After searching unsuccessfully for an R1 engine, I finally moved forward and installed the cbr600 engine instead

<img src="20170206_152511_resized" />

Plenty of leg room for the driver and a sufficient amount for the passenger.

<img src="20170206_152656_resized" />

As soon as I got it into place I ran across this for sale.

<img src="20170207_140242_resized" />

A well worn but good running 2001 Yamaha R1. 150hp (cbr was 100) with much better dimensions for the Autobianchi. It will allow more passenger room and has a much better output shaft placement and will also give me more ground clearance.

Now that the 3 Day Caffeine and Octane show is over,

<img src="20170317_101512_resized" />

I can get back to work on the Autobianchi. Removed the cbr600 engine today to make room for the R1 engine

<img src="20170322_152547_resized" />

The engine is ready to come out of the R1

Driveshaft is done. The slip joint is to allow for the rubber mounted engine.

I know I am late to the party but if you are unhappy with the lack of torque of the R1, the best car engine I have used so far is from a Suzuki Bandit 1250. I have done Hayabusa engines in Buggys with good success too.

Look into Turbo headers for the R1, you may find they are what you are looking for.

Man, this thing is going to be wild! What are you going to do with it when it's complete? Autocross, just play around, something else? Will it be street legal?

Yes, it is street legal. Mostly for fun. The closest autocross is about an hour away and not very often, but I will have to make it there!

After using a large crowbar to lever the engine against the rubber mounts, I find that the rubber gives a lot less than expected. Meaning that the u-joint angles under load do not decrease as much as expected, so I remounted the engine for more desirable angles

Thanks! Welding on the shifter is done. Just needs a few passes with a fine grit flap wheel. Weighs only ounces! <img src="20170410_174635_resized" />
