1966 Porsche 912 Vintage Race Car $40,000

This is a wonderful 912. It has been a race car for many years now, owned and campaigned in PCA and Rocky Mountain Vintage Racing by an ex-Navy pilot who has (and does) own several other Porsches. With his hot rod 1968 911 being almost done, he realizes he really doesn't need to keep the 912 for HP DE's and track days anymore, so it is up for sale.

It was built and refined to be a reliable car – not a hand grenade. On tight tracks it can still give many 911s a serious run for the money. With the theme of reliability, the engine was built with Weber 40 IDF Carbs, header with custom 'stinger' Supertrapp muffler. It runs 3 oil coolers – the stock one in the doghouse, an additional one in the engine bay, and another behind the drivers headlight. This can be run for an enduro in 100 degree heat with no problems.

Turn the key, start it up and go – can easily be driven on the street – and is street registered currently! It would need the headlights reconnected and a little wiring done for real street duty, but nothing difficult. The transmission is a close ratio 912 box that has a slightly lower 5th gear to make it about 500rpm closer to 4th for track use. Koni shocks, sway bars, etc.

This was built years ago, and the interior was kept in place for the most part, unlike most race cars that rip everything out. To return the interior to stock would require some front seats and floor mats and that's all.

The paint and cosmetics are very good, even moreso when you consider it's a race car that's been used. It doesn't have nor has ever had any rust issues. It had fiberglass front and rear bumpers and rear decklid with 911R hinges. It weighs 1925lbs, with all glass windows – original Sekurit except for the windshield, so it could be MUCH lighter with some lexan and more fiberglass!

Want a vintage SWB Porsche to take a Sunday morning blast through the canyons, or to a Cars and Coffee event, and then autocross, or do a track day or all of the above, and not spend six figures? Not many options out there. To find a car as clean as this, and then build it would obviously cost more, and then you would still need to iron out the wrinkles. This one is ready to go.
