1972 VW 411 NMNA

Never seen one of these before.  Maybe it should be posted on the Unicorn forum.

most of the USA market ones came with Automatics,

I'd love to build a 2300CC version of one of these or a hard top Ghia.  Pulling the wheels in a cool old air cooled just seems like a good thing to me.

Actually the 411 were the earlier cars and 412 was a refresh, in '72-ish?

They are cooler today then back then.

Yeah, I don't know about that.  Pretty sure there was a 412 sedan sold in the US

The car in the OP's adv is a coupe - which... I have to say I've never seen in the wild.

My interest in the Type 4 cars was mostly to extract the engine from it's rusty surrounds and repurpose them.   They were fugly and unpopular cars back then.  I had a boatload of aircooled VW love back then but these were definitely the redheaded stepchildren.

I scored a running wagon back in the day after the engine in my 72 bus blew up. Paid Zero for it. About market value 35 years ago

My HS Driver Ed program had two of these donated by the local VW-Porsche Stealership.  Also had 3 big Dodge somethings, the VWs were to teach the kiddies the mystery of the third pedal.  What a hoot to drive!  Wish I could find a rust free example I could afford.

My parents had two of them in succession when I was young: first, a green 411, then a gold 412, both wagons (I hope I'm recalling this correctly - it was a long time ago). The 411 was probably the first car I ever rode in. My recollection is that the 411 was pretty decent, but the 412 was problematic at best. I can't remember much else, but I do wish I could find one, just for the nostalgia.

I've never seen a coupe version, but hey, I haven't seen many at all.  An English professor at Clemson daily drove a long time ago.  

Why does it look like it is a four door car with a large two door car rear window??

VW must not have made a whole rear quarter panel back then. It has that door gap line.
