1984 2500 4x4 suburban

3rd owner 213k miles

Had a Banks kit installed in 1984 at the dealer. Original paint and so rust free (for a square body) was why I bought it. And the diesel with turbo makes for a pleasant and economical (18 MPG mixed) tow vehicle. Has a huge hitch bolted/welded on when I got it. Interior clean (need front seat upholstery and was mid way thru headliner replacement - and plan on finishing this) dash 90% crack free.

The Good:

Very solid body wearing 90% original paint - doors don't drop - my first square that didn't

Looks like one quarter might have been painted along they way

Interior could use some love but not a disgusting place to be

Drives (drove?) great - shifts well, 4x4 works (even the lights on the dash work)

Almost new BFG AT 265-75-16 on Ford van wheels (16x7 versus 16x6.5)

Almost brand new batteries and cables

New front and rear brakes (will need rear drums turned - has a pulsation from rear - one drum new)

Trans "fresh" per prior owner - he did list off parts that sounded like good 700r4 parts but no receipt.

2 "rust" spots - one on the tailgate where the 6.2 emblem was, and one lower corner of rear window. 100% solid rockers floors windshield surround - this one did not rust where they all do.

The Bad

Had an injection pump leak. I am barely competent on gas engines, 100% not a diesel guy, so I farmed the reseal out to someone who knew the engine. Ran fine for a couple days, now wont start. Will cough and sputter if priming bulb in engine compartment is pumped but that's it. There is fuel in the filter. Now he is way too busy and cant come back to check what it is for months. He probably jacked something up and doesn't want to admit it. And I don't know enough about it to know where to start. It seems like I hear compression leaking after cranking. But I am just lost with it. Could be easy fix, could be DOA. I couldnt tell you.

So my plan was to yank the 6.2, sell the turbo kit, and drop a LS in it. But time is money, and have a business opportunity coming shortly that will eliminate my need for a personal tow rig - but will require some more cash than I have on hand.  So wanted to see if someone here would be interested. Clean suburbans are getting harder to find, and if you live in Cali ( or other emission strangulation states) the diesel on the title is priceless.

Will get pictures up this weekend.

Glad the temptation is so far away but would still like square body picture porn.

Email sent.  I love square body burbs.  Looking forward to seeing pictures and price. I actually have a rebuilt 6.2 sitting in storage and I'm pretty sure it has a new injection pump on it.  I'll need to check on that.

I would bet a replacement injector pump would have it running. The pumps are know for having pressure head problems. Reputable rebuilders will replace the head with a new one, not taking a chance on the old one being good.
