How much does it weigh in its current state?

Not entirely sure, to be honest. The E90 was a heavy chassis, but with lighter wheels, some gutting, carbon trunk, I would guesstimate 3100-3200 lbs. I wanted to get a carbon hood and lightweight battery for it, which would drop a big chunk as well. But ah well. The headers would drop a few pounds as well.

If anyone GRMer is nearby and can help diagnose the no start, please let me know.  I'd be happy to pay.  Interested in the car but no time or skills to fix myself.

I wish I had more information about it. It ran before I removed the sunroof/headliner/side curtain airbags. After that it turns over just fine, but never seems to fire, if that's the word. If I leave it sitting for a day or two it'll kick over a few times like it really wants to start, but never fully does. I'm wondering if it's a strange fuel issue, although I'm not sure where to start with that. It's got a few gallons of gas in it. I'll try to get some more charge on the battery and turn it over today again.

Dumb question: how long did it run when you backed it out of the garage?  I don't know anything about newer BMWs but in the E36 days, running a cold car for a very short time (like ... backing it out of the garage) could result in fouled plugs and a no-start.

Okay, snapped a few pics. The interior is a touch messy with tools at the moment. I had just started properly gutting it, so I've removed the factory amp, most of the trunk and rear seat stuff. I haven't really messed with the front half of the interior as much yet. I do have some carbon fiber bits in there, like the panel around the headlight switch and the ebrake handle. Also took a pic of the trunk lid since it's just plain awesome.

Pushed the start button hoping for something different, but it's the same thing. Engine turns and spins freely but never starts. If I had to guess, I would think it's not gettin fuel or something, but I'm not an expert. The wiring hanging down in the first pic is for the overhead light. I haven't cut any wires; everything removed was from unbolting/unscrewing/unplugging. I'm not brave enough to mess with BMW electronics lol. Seats are comfy, my wife describes them as "ass traps" and are on sliders. Currently has a 4-point DOT legal harness in it, made just for the E90. Seat has provisions for a 5 point, I just hadn't gotten around to it yet and 5-pointers aren't DOT legal.

With a lightweight battery and carbon hood and the euro front bumper support (which is about 10 pounds lighter) as well as more interior lightening, I have no doubts this car could be sub-3000 pounds, even being the all wheel drive version. Especially if someone wanted to go full race car and remove stuff like air conditioning and side windows.

Also for what it's worth, I'll trade this car for a good set of BBS RS017 and RS018 wheels, AKA the 16" basketweave wheels that were options for the 928. Fronts were ET62, rears were closer to 40 I think.

This will sound like a silly question, but in March, two people I know ran into a kind-of-silly no-start issue--they were out of gas. One of them was in his truck and it stopped running. One of them drove to a cars and coffee, shut off the car without knowing there was an issue, and it wouldn't start again. That said... it has enough gas in the tank to start, right? smiley

Beautiful car. I love the wheels!

Yeah it has about two gallons of gas in it. It was really low so I grabbed a gas can and put two gallons of premium in it.

The cars-and-coffee incident happened in a BMW. E46. The car appeared to have a little less than 1/8th tank, but it won't run at that level anymore. An easy test would be to throw a couple more gallons in there (you can always siphon it off) to see if it comes to life. If not that, then try replacing your fuel filter.

Does this car have a fuel crash/inertia switch that may have been triggered while pulling stuff out of the back?

I know it has some kind of battery disconnect, but that's obviously not triggered.

In reply to Karacticus :

Patrick got me thinking about that, he suggested removing the airbags might have triggered something. I'm going to try to code out the airbags over the weekend if I still have the software and see if that changes anything.

Found my old Android phone, got bimmergeeks protools going, and coded out all the airbags. So now we can go proper race car mode and remove them all. Also learned that my issue seems to be a loss of current to the fuel pump, so I'll investigate that over this week. Although if I get it started, the price is going up. That's only fair.

This. I've got to deal with emissions, and I've got to be able to pass an inspection that checks for airbags and airbag lights...

Salvage title that needs to be upgraded to rebuilt title?

IIRC you need to provide receipts so they know you didn't just steal another car and take the parts off.  I'm sure a certain Prius-centric Ohioan knows more.
