1967 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray – Numbers Matching 350hp 327 Small Block, Close Ratio Muncie 4 speed, Posi 3.70 rear end, 49k Miles. $65,000

 

This is a great car – a really, really nice Vette that only needs a new owner to love and enjoy it. Well optioned (but not overly-optioned). The engine is the highly sought after L79 code small block – one of the best small blocks GM built for many years. It has the Muncie M21 Close Ratio 4 speed manual transmission – not the “Rock-crusher” M22 with loud straight cut gears, but the more usable M21. With the limited slip/posi 3.70 differential, it makes for a very fun car to drive anywhere.

 

While it was originally sunburst yellow, the repaint it received years ago was a quality job, even replacing the 67-only GM Door stickers. The metallic gunmetal grey really suits it, and with the tinted windows, it's a super sharp looking car. The nose was replaced when it was painted because there was some minor fender damage that wasn't repaired well previously, but the nose was a quality piece and the work was done by a high end car specialist. There is clear bra on the front end, the entire sides of the front fenders, as well as in front of and behind the rear wheel openings to protect the paint. The interior has newer carpet and upholstery.

 

There are only a few minor upgrades – electronic ignition conversion inside the distributor and power upgrade for the disc brakes. Both are easily reversible and simply make the car more drivable and enjoyable. The other options the car has are AM/FM radio, telescopic steering wheel, power steering and white wall tires.

 

The engine was rebuilt and blue-printed to factory specs approximately 10k miles ago. Paperwork is included ($8,000 cost) and removal and reinstallation was handled by a Corvette specialist. It starts, runs and performs wonderfully, with the characteristic lopey L79 idle. Clutch was replaced at the same time, and the M21 transmission is a joy to run through the gears. The brakes work very well, the suspension if firm with no clunks or play anywhere. Steering is firm and precise.

 

In short – this Corvette is not a 100 point, exactly original car. If it was, you likely wouldn't be able to drive and enjoy it much – more a museum piece than a car. What it is, is a very, very nice car that could easily win local shows, while being driven unabashedly on sunny days and on twisty mountain roads and taken to car shows.

 

You can spend a lot more money on another Corvette, and end up with a lot less car.
