Hello fellow GRMers!

Today I have for sale is a well maintained 2004 Nissan Xterra. V6, 4x4, Auto, 190k

It is loaded with options, like power windows, power locks, cruise, AC (very cold), and even the luxurious keyless entry! All the options work.

There is very little rust. In fact, for a rust belt truck it is almost mint! :P

I put a cone filter intake on it, and it did nothing but make a better noise. If it isn't your thing, the original intake is included. There is also brand new set of fog lights that I never got around to installing it. I even got a cool flip key, and the original keys and remote are included. There is also a box of random spare parts I acquired, that also includes the 4x4 shift knob I can't seem to find. I will eventually find this.

The good points are that the front, rear and transfer case fluids are recently changed, it has a new oil pan, newer shocks. The interior is clean. I mean, really clean. I ripped it all out, cleaned everything, and put it back together. I even replaced the headliner with nautical grade vinyl. It looks great and is very durable. Tires have a lot of life left.

The bad: it jumped timing. I used a camera to inspect it, and found no damage to the valves, which is good! The bad part of the inspection is that the camera fell apart inside the cylinder. I can't get it out without pulling the head, so I just bought a GMC Envoy. It ran great beforehand, and didn't burn a drop of oil.

I have no need for this truck, but you're in a neighboring state and it's $500, so I have to ask: how involved are the head gasket and timing belt (it is a belt, right?) jobs on these? If it's not engine-out or some other horribly convoluted job, I might not be able to help myself.

In reply to 02Pilot :

I don't think it is a terrible job, to be honest. When I did the valve cover gaskets, I had to take it down to the lower intake, and it wasn't that tough. I'd do it myself, if I didn't already have a million other projects going on. Heck, if I don't sell it as is, I'll probably fix it and sell it. I am also open to trades for stuff. Mustang parts (I need seats with actual lateral support for my '99) smiley

Timing belt isnt horrible to do. Ive done a few nissan v6 timing belts. That thing is super clean and in my favorite color combo. Im very glad it is far away.

This is a *STEAL*

The timing belt isn't difficult on these, but I did have a *heck* of a time getting the crank pulley off. Additionally, getting some of the stupid fasteners out of the intake to remove the heads to recover the scope will require a manual impact driver. Don't even try it without one.

The Xterras are pretty good off-road and are comfortable on road, too. They were number 9 on Expedition Portal's 2011 best overlanding vehicles.

In reply to Woody (Forum Supportum) :

The rust is very minimal. The rocker in the rear drivers side has a rust stain, but it isn't soft. The frame is in great shape, not even any scaling. It has a few chips in the paint here and there, but nothing alarming. It looks great for its age and mileage. If there is anything in particular you'd like to see, let me know and I'll run out and snap a pic for you.

Thanks,

Nate

I've been looking for wheels for my Frontier (also 6 lug) the X-Terra is  almost worth the $500 for just that.  Woody, wanna buy a $250 X-Terra with no wheels?
