Hey y'all.

I couldn't find that prohibited this, so forgive me if it is.  I'm looking to move from my 1990 Range Rover in my profile to an older F250.  Reasons? My wife hates the truck and she has to drive it every once in a while.  Also, while the Rover is cool, and I get people wanting to talk about it nearly every day- I was looking for an older truck when I bought it.  I'm looking for a truck in good to very good condition.  Do not want rust.  Does not have to be a powerstroke, in fact- I'd rather save the money.  I think long wheel base two tone trucks are beautiful.  Would prefer stock, don't want a jacked up mud truck.

Gracias.

P.S. Rover is obviously for sale, might need to make a thread for that as well.

I drive a '96 F250 Supercab long bed. If your wife hates the Rover she may very well divorce you after driving the F250. It rides like a buckboard wagon, and since mine's a 'stroke it sounds and accelerates like a school bus. Which is, of course, charming to me. Not so much with most females of the species.

If you're willing to drive to central georgia I will keep an eye out for one around here. I saw an absolutely cherry one about a month ago that was gas motor, 4dr, short bed, but I didn't check the asking price. Fairly sure it sold in a matter of days though.

I'm from Chattanooga so I'm through that area a few times a year.  Hard to find a truck here that doesn't have a 6 inch lift and some type of huge wheel with spacers.

She just hates that it doesn't have cat's and smells like a truck without cats.  Also, it's sort of an odd vehicle.  while it has power sunroof, windows, steering, a/c and cruise- the key doesn't fit perfect and it doesn't drive like a normal car.  It's got an odd brake system, non moving steering wheel, etc.  She grew up driving a 15 passenger van, so size should be fine.

key doesn't fit perfect? lol, sure.  My key isn't even really necessary to drive the truck.  That Rover still sounds more plush than the average 250.

If I see something local I'll give a shout. You want 4x4 or 2wd? Rust free (or mostly) 4x4s with gas motor will probably run 5-6k, 2wd a couple k less. Add another $1-2k for 4dr models.

So, about that key, it's somewhat embarrassing.

A couple of months ago I was hurrying to get to the gym.  We had just bought the house and I was spending about 18 hours a day working on getting it fixed up. It was stressful, and the gym is about the best stress relief I have in my life.  So I look up from knocking a hole in a cement block wall for a door to see that I've got to leave NOW to make it to the gym.  Once in the truck I notice that I'm at about 1/8th of a tank.  I don't like to usually drive below 1/4 of a tank, but the gym is only about 5 miles away.  Well, you guessed it.  I ran out.  Not sure why the fuel tank was off but I was out of gas.  Thankfully SWMBO agreed to bring me a gas can full of gas.  Unfortunately, that gas can is one of the new "can't spill anywhere, but also doesn't want to pour" models without a relief air valve. I'm still wanting to get to the gym so I decide to poke a hole in the plastic can.  As I'm doing that, I think "man, I should be careful- this is the only key I have for the truck" and then it breaks.  I had another one made, but making a key from a broken key is never perfect.  It works, and for me it works immediately because I've learned the trick- but the wife hasn't.  So yeah.  That's the key issue.  I suppose I should put something on it so I can figure out where the high spots are and fix it....but I'm usually the only one driving it.

Ultracycle:

4x2 would be fine although 4x4 is better.  Gas for the savings in purchase price and dad's got a virgin 460 block and crank sitting in his garage that I could always build.  Thanks!

During my search for a pickup/winter beater/hypermiler/manual everything ponycar/scope creep I found a '97 RWD, regular cab F250 with a 351w/E4OD combo and learned something; the E4OD is basically an electronically controlled C6 with an overdrive added to it.

Other than that, I've got nothing. Lol

I searched for 2 years in the local area for a HD truck with a manual gearbox.  I was flexible on the make, but I preferred a pre-'97 F-series or 1980s Dodge Ram.  I had two F-250 deals fall through because the owners decided they wanted to keep the trucks.  My gearbox requirement put me into a niche, of course; but being in the South, I was still shocked at how few HD trucks came up for sale.  My advice is not to expect anything immediate unless you are willing to fly out for one, and to keep persisting.  Good luck!

yeah, I looked for quite a while last time before I gave up and bought the rover.  If you want to spend all the money you could buy one on BaT. I don't have all the money.  I would love a manual, but the wife....so I'm getting a slushbox.
