While at the Amelia Island Concours weekend, we got a unique opportunity. The experts at Mercedes-Benz Classic Center had a display at the event and their fintail expert, Nate Landers, was on hand. Having never restored one of these cars before, we asked him to drive and honestly evaluate not only our restoration work, but the drivability of our Mercedes.

Fortunately, his overall impression was very favorable. He praised not only the quality of our work, but the drivability of our car. He loved the torque of the 2.8-liter engine and he thought our disc brake conversion was masterful.

Still, we made a list of several little adjustments that would improve the overall experience, like improving the shifting. Nate also suggested a few changes for better originality, like the correct hose clamps. But what was causing that fuel vapor smell? The wrong gas cap, he said.

You can learn a lot if you can get someone who really knows your car to drive and evaluate it. We're thankful for Nate and the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center for all they do to help old Mercedes owners better enjoy their car.
