If you grew up in the 1960s like me and were interested in model cars as a kid, maybe you remember the Fisher Body Craftsman’s Guild, or a.k.a. the Fisher Body Design Contest. It was a futuristic model car design / build contest sponsored by General Motors, and there were cash and scholarship prizes for the winners. That was back when GM made money, and it ended in 1968. Anyway, for anybody in the New England area who might be interested, there’s an exhibit of 60 of these classic award-winning models at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston this weekend, August 9-10. The model builders who will be present at the MFA with their models are from all over the country and some have gone on to successful styling/design careers with the major car manufacturers.
