They really were roomy. I remember in high school driving around with seven kids in one of these. Two guys in the front, three guys in the back with two gals sitting on their laps. I know a 6'4" guy that used to own a mini.

Look at all that front legroom cars used to have. Drove my sisters Hyundai Sonata last week. The center consul, the door panels, and the under dash area were so intrusive, there was just enough room for my legs. Forget about seeing my feet on the pedals. I felt like I had the seat pushed as far forward as possible, but it wasn't. Felt like driving a formula ford except I wasn't laying down.
I remember five of us squeezing a ride in/on a Metropolitan coupe once. Of course two were sitting on the trunk using the spare tire for foot braces. We drove several miles around town that way. If a Constable On Patrol had spotted us, we'd probably have all gone to jail. In case of a wreck, we'd probably have all been killed. That's what worries me when young people drive. I'm scared to death they will act as stupid as we did, when we were young! And we didn't even have the texting, phoning distractions that they all seem to consider normal now.

Not always the case with older vehicles - I'm wishing I could push the seat on my '72 Chevy pickup back another 2 or 3 inches.
Exact same thing with my '07 Mustang. I'd settle for just that one more inch or so, just feels s smidge off . .
