i will take the honor of being the first rotorhead on your site!!! thank you very much... i have two first generation rx-7s. one i have had about 10 years or so. it is a 1985 gsl with 186k miles on it and still running strong(yes it has a few mods). the other one is a 1984 gsl-se rolling chassis that i am trying to collect enough parts for, to put it together. it will have a cosmo 13bre motor, with a single turbo conversion on it... zoom-zoom!

You know, a lot of those old Mazdas aren't widely seen as classics yet, but they will be soon, especially the RX3 and first-generation RX7.

I have a soft spot for the FD's, the 3rd gen RX-7's but I suppose they are even further from being considered "classic" since they are somewhat recent vintage.

...mmm, looks like I should find a little avatar, too.

edit2: I'll use the little turbo.

i like them, and i know alot of folks that are way more into them than i am... i like to modify them for performance, but it seems like anything you do to them creates an "unfair advantage"...

talk about mod for performance, my buddy has a built/stroked LS1 in his FD, that thing is very fast on the roadcourses and autox's

i am one of the very few rotorheads that will not make a big deal out of fact that anyone put a pissed-on motor in a rotary powered car... i like all cars, and i appreciate the innovation that goes into a good swap... i just got through swapping a third generation turbo motor (13brew), into a first generation body (12a)... sick!!! is the only way to describe it!!!

We have been trying to find a decent RX-7 to do a face off against our 240-Z for a story. Any of you rotorheads in the Southeast?

goto www.rx7club.com and post in the southeast section... you will also need to specify if you would like to face off against a stocker or a modded 7... because if you try to run up against a ported, or boosted 7 your 240z will be owned!lol you might also want to post in the first gen. section.. there is a moderator there that goes by directfreak, he is a really cool guy that has a first gen w/ a cosmo 13bre motor installed... it is premo! i will watch for your post.. becareful how you word your post... you might get flamed on there, rotary guys are notorious for eating boingers on the forum... if you need any help maybe pming someone to help further, don't hesitate to contact me... i helped recently with a photoshoot for modified magazine... watch for the febuary issue, third gen in savannah...

Rotary pickups rock. I'd like to see a story on those also. Still kicking myself for not buying the tired but still solid one for $600 15 years ago.

Years ago I test drove a small rotary powered Mazda wagon. This cool beast is not often mentioned but it was a spirited driving machine.

Cheers Ron

One thing the rotraries don't seem to do well is torque. Had a nice fun run with an RX-7 once in my MGC on a highway - until we hit mountains and it was like the Mazda had been grabbed by a big hand and pulled backward.

On the flat, though, they are pretty effective.

wspohn- i think that you are wrong on that one... my 79c.i. motor makes almost as much torque as it does rwhp... now granted my motor is basically a stock port motor w/ twin weber down drafts (dcd) and a header exhaust... so it isn't a power house buy any means.. but it will get out of its own way.... in addition to that it has jumped on a few well deserving mustangs and camaros at the drag strip...

I will also put in a good word for Alex (aka Direct Freak). Extremely knowledgable and a good guy as well. I think he serves as a moderator in the 1st Gen forum of RX7club.com...
