The Ford Racing engine in our Shelby GT 350 did not come equipped with a distributor, so we had to choose one to install. We opted for a Crane Pro Curve Billet model. This vacuum-sensing distributor has 27 digital advance curves already programmed in, letting us tune it for maximum performance. It’s billed as maintenance-free, with digital hardware and tough materials. It also has a programmable rev limiter, which is important since our new engine redlines at 6500 rpm.

We used Crane’s 8mm ignition wires and mounted their ignition box in existing holes in a subtle location on the radiator support.

The March issue of Classic Motorsports will contain the engine installation segment of the project. Find out what we did to install a 500-horsepower, 363-cubic-inch Ford Racing V8. Buy the issue today in our online store.
