Or even better build my own.

Beautiful car!! Thanks for providing the link. I'm sure it will go for a pretty penny.

My only objection there is the VW swing axle setup. I've seen cars with them take some scary hops. Of course with a car this nice, the owner probably won't stress it too much.

I may have to build myself something like from my FIAT bits and pieces.

Wife has always said only allowed 1 sports car and 1 race car. Never said I could "rebuild" the race car into something else.

Dreaming away.

Probably a horrid car to drive; certainly a horrid set of wheels!

"said to be carrying a limited slip diff" - well heck, all I need is a rumour of cool parts to shell out $60K, right.

Nope, scary home built. The engine looks the part though, I must say.

Oh it is probably very tail happy.

If I ever made a sports racer I'd go front engine just to avoid having to find odd trans/diff setups.

Like I said tear down the FIAT and have some tube welding fun.

Really the guess work would have to be in the suspension geometry and spring rates.

And the small detail of learning how to do body panel fab work.

1967 D Mod (today's DSR) National Championship car. To me, that's significant..but I don't have $60K. Maybe if I win the lottery I'll start an SCCA museum or something. Old club racers never get any respect in the marketplace, I think sentimentality is the only reason they ever sell at all.

I doubt there is enough suspension travel range for the swing-axle to be an issue. Folks are still racing Formula V's every weekend without flipping them.

This car won the ARRC at Daytona in '67 so I doubt there's anything spooky about the handling. And to qualify for the runoffs it would have racked up points in other races throughout the season. Even though D-Mod was a small field at the '67 runoffs, this car did beat a Lotus 23, an Elva and a Merlyn. Incidently D-Mod did not become DSR. The top sport racing classification in those days was C-Mod which went on to become ASR. D-Mod was next and was closer to what BSR is today. 153 c.i. is around 2.5 liters. H-Mod became DSR and those classes were limited to engines under one liter.

I stand corrected..but I thank you for it! When I win the lottery and open that museum, you will be on the research & acquisition staff.

Sorry Corrado, I wasn't intending to be a jackass. It's just that after 50+ years of reading car magazines and car books every day, attending a lot of shows and racing events, etc., I've absorbed a ton of trivia. I'm not a racer, but if there ever was a Trivial Pursuit championship series for useless spors car data, I'd probably be able to qualify for the runoffs. It's the only information I can recall instantly. I usually can't remember what I had for dinner yesterday.

And you weren't one, dude! I was just plain wrong, and you had good data. I respect that, instead of resenting it. I'm just odd that way, I guess..

And that's why I wasn't being sarcastic about the "job offer". OTOH, the pool at work only won about $4 in the lottery (one tic had the Powerball right.. ), so we'll have to wait to build that museum.

I know how you feel. I can often randomly recall obscure Mopar data I read 30 years ago as a teen, but what I had for lunch yesterday - forget it. And it's not like I'm really into Mopars much these days...
