This 1961 Bugeye Sprite was listed on Craigslist in Okkeechobee FL for $3500. Margie, Rennie and I went and looked at it yesterday. It is pretty clean, all steel, not rusty and is very orginal. The engine and transmission and log books back to 1972 come with it.

This will make a much easier starting point for the Hooligan Bugeye project we have planned and already built a drivetrain for. Stay tuned!

I used to laugh when drivers of American cars would get into a Bugeye back in the 60s and they'd be all darting all over the road because the steering ratio was so fast and the rack and pinion so direct and without the slop that was then usual in American cars.

Of course you can't quite get away with steering ratios fast today with the larger tires we use.  The Bugeye is a lot of fun even with a dead stock 948 cc engine. I used to vintage race against a guy with a fully built high compression 1340 cc engine in his and the car was a rocket.

That looks a lot like my old HP Bugeye.  So much fun!
