My brother in law has a nice S3 Alpine, with a S5 motor installed. The S3 came with the 1592 (I think) and the S5 with a 1725.

The later car used an electronic tach; the tach in the S3 is mechanically driven from the distributor shaft.

Before he sent it out for a high-dollar restoration, I had made a small spacer to go between the bottom of the S3 distributor and the S5 engine. This let us use the S3 assembly and the mechanical tach.

When it came back from the restoration shop, the engine had been rebuilt as a pure S5, and the S3 tach disabled. (No idea at the moment on the whereabouts of the S3 dizzy and tach drive)

Here's my question: how should we adapt the S5 engine/distributor to the S3 tach?

Thanks Matt

Anybody?

Heck, even a picture of the tach drive for an S3 would be a big help. I recall some sort of alloy plate with the takeoff built in, but it's been ~ 10 years since I worked on this.

Thanks Matt

Treb,

I can't help you as both of mine have/will have Ford V6's.

I might recommend posting the question on the Sunbeam Alpine Owners site. www.saoca.org
