Our latest test session with our 1957 Triumph TR3 did not go very well. The old girl was not on song, and a subsequent leakdown test showed a cylinder head problem.

A few weeks before our next race, we found ourselves pulling the head off the engine. Inside, we found a couple of bent valves. We could not see where anything was hitting but did notice that there was a distinct lack of clearance between the valve stems and valve guides. We realized that at high rpm and high heat, the valve stems were expanding, causing a lot of friction between them and their guides.

We headed to our savior, J.K. Jackson, and once again, he got the problem sorted out. Our head was returned to us just in time for a test day during the last weekend in August.
