Where have all the wide (245mm +) 16 inch tires gone? I wanted to use some Starquest wheels (16x8 and 16x9) for the Volvo 780, but tire pickings is slim to none. I guess I'll have to step up to 17s.

Everything sporty has at least 17s stock now, and everyone with an older car who upgrades just goes straight to 17s because the selection is so much better. The only wide sticky stuff in 16 are a few r-comps for folks who are forced to use stock 16s by class rules, and a lone ludicrously priced 245 RE-11.
At least for amateur motorsports applications, 17s are here to stay (so are 15s, at least until all the remaining NA and NB miatas get crashed into each other irreparably).

There's a 245/45 RE-11? There used to be the RS2, then the RS3 came out and didn't have that size. The RT615 is gone.
All that's really left is some Toyos.
And it really sucks. I have TWO cars with 16x8s.
Its irritating, but the market forces are against us. I've gone from 235/60 15s in the 80's, to 245/50 16s at the turn of the century, and if I ever dig the Camaro out again, it will have 17's if I still want performance.
Cooper Cobras just ain't got what I want.
I can still find 13's, thankfullly. The Nissan would look silly with 17's.
Just bought 245/50-16's for the Porsche 944S2. The new BFG G-Force Sport Comp-2 comes in a good selection of 16s. Head to Tire Rack...
Awwww too tall, though.
