Sounds plausible to me.

Flashing CEL this morning. Pending P0300 (multiple cylinder misfire). Tow truck is on it's way.

I cant believe this whole situation. I've been in the auto industry for 10 years, and when this happens, they send out an engineer. Period. At Hyundai, they would send people straight from Korea. At Volvo, we have an engineer come and determine whats going on.

That being said, this is in the US, I have no idea how Canada land works, Sorry!

I believe an engineer is coming. I have my fingers crossed that they can sort this out.

A friend had the EXACT same problem as you with his Mini Cooper, went through three sets of plugs and a visit to the dealer before solving it. The dealer was no help at all. It ended up being in the plug heat range. He bought the best available as recommended on one of the better forums and everything cleared up immediately. Maybe not what's going on with you, but worth a try, only cost you another set of the CORRECT plugs. Luck—

This afternoon the service manager's boss called me and said they won't be bringing in the engineer. He said they'd be changing the plugs again and sending it home. He's trying to blame it on me using my ODBII code reader and wants to "rule it out" even though I didn't use it all the time, etc. He mentioned that GM is asking him to justify the costs when the car still isn't fixed. After service visit #2 at dealer #2 they introduced a secondary misfire problem on cylinder 7 (although severe), which they later determined was a loose spark plug wire. I showed the foreman/service manager ODBII logging when they were sending the vehicle home after visit #3 and he agreed it was a problem. He asked to keep a copy of the printout. It took them 2 visits and two weeks of time at the dealership to fix that problem. I was trying to help them because they clearly couldn't figure it out and they clearly needed it. I came pretty close to the head exploding meme posted earlier. A few people earlier in the thread are now entitled to some "I told you so."

He mentioned they ran a compression test, another set of injector tests and something else and found nothing wrong. I'm glad the compression test results were okay.

Regarding the plug heat ranges - I don't think there is an option to run anything but the plug they install.

I've never seen it but it is possible for a cheap code reader (or even an expensive one) to cause running issues.  I don't blame the dealer for wanting to rule that out.  If that's not the problem then you'll get a check engine light again and they'll have to take another look.

Yeah, put your dongle away, it’s not your problem.  I just went through this with the dodge dealer, and it took 3 trips for a tech to think there was cause to pull a wheel.  I could have pulled it apart and found the problem immediately, but then they wouldn’t touch it.

This guy is the diagnostics tech at his dealership, and he seems like he really knows his stuff, based on his posts on IATN.  Take your car with its fresh spark plugs and go on a warm holiday.

How is there nobody here reading this from GM corporate?

Seriously, though, I would send a letter to Mark Reuss. He's supposed to be a performance guy, so maybe he'll get it. Include a printout of all of the forum discussions.

If that doesn't work, I might try the public shaming route. TTAC or Jalopnik would probably plaster a story like this all over.

Yes, the last couple of days someone is offering to help. :) I was being a bit of a tool at first, I've been burned a lot through this process. The help is very appreciated.

I mean GM corporate - in particular, someone who cares about customer satisfaction and brand perception. This is epic enough to be yet another potential PR disaster for GM.

You need to stop trying to "help" the dealer.  It's under warranty, stop F'ing with the car!  Just take it to them and tell them to fix it!

Believe me, I will not plug the OBDII reader in. I have no idea if they can tell, but I'm not taking the chance. I asked them to provide evidence the long term fuel trims are now in spec. They know they've been returning a broken car to me. Telling them to fix it... Yes, I've definitely been doing that.

I think this dealership is really trying to get to the bottom of the problem, but sounds like their hands are tied by GM.  Put the reader in a drawer at home, and take the car back as soon as the CEL pops up again.  Keep doing that, every time.

That was me.  I got almost exactly what I thought I would, which was nothing other than. "Oh, that guy is an internet genius and probably chipped it or broke it and GM dealers are all fabulous."  Some of them are the same guys that won't test drive a car to reproduce a high rpm misfire because you aren't supposed to do that, and the engine will blow up if you hit the rev limiter.

Severely off topic:  I read IATN, but really only post there when I have a real problem, and have never gotten reasonable help.  Abuse for  using a Vantage instead of a Pico, Whatever I did must be wrong because that can't happen...  Even posting a hint gets, "Yeah, you must be a moron because I've never seen that happen."  The archives can be useful, and a beginner would get some good help just by reading, but God help you if you ask a dumb question.

Yeah, that kinda E36 M3 pisses me off, probably more than it should.  "It's some dipE36 M3 who put stiff engine mounts in his car and now is complaining about the vibration LOL"

At least the first couple responses hit the nail on the head:  This is a new car, this is GM's problem, why is Corporate not yet involved?

I don't have access to that site, but I imagine a lot of them know the LS inside and out but haven't gotten a chance to really dig into a new LT. So much of the business is trucks now...

Thanks for doing that Streetwiseguy - very kind of you. This has been an awful process, the support on here is one of the few things that helps me stay sane.

Just for the record, I definitely did not chip or tune the car. Beyond potential the impact on warranty, I really don't see the point. I cross shopped this car with a Miata which has 274-300hp less and I wanted the Miata (wife vetoed). I don't care about 5 hp.

Last night I was thinking about how miserable this process is making me and what I need to do to more forward on a personal level. The problem isn't technical, it's being stuck in the process, logistics, the fear of being screwed, the implications of the warranty even though it's not really worth anything, etc. I don't think I can pay to take it elsewhere because what if they accuse me of negatively affecting the car, etc.? Principles, etc. aside, I'd be thrilled to pay if I didn't have to go through this. Sure it's stressful that the car doesn't work, but it's all this other stuff that I want to stop thinking about. My company recently changed hands and there was a delay in me being paid, I worked without my contract being renewed, etc. I didn't stress about this more important stuff one bit.

so, suddenly on page 9, your call to action is going to get something going at GM?   and who do you think Cooperate (sic?  Corporate?) GM is going to call?   Oh wait, I know, they'll call GM Engineering.   so if you scroll up this page, you'll see a not-so-thinly-veiled suggestion that IVE BEEN TRYING BEHIND THE SCENES TO GET THE OP TO GIVE ME THE berkeleyING VIN SO I CAN ENGAGE MY PEOPLE AT GM ENGINEERING TO SOLVE HIS berkeleyING PROBLEM!!!
