Would it autocross worth a damn? How hard would it be to make a little more power? Is it worth $200 for one that needs fresh gas to run? Anyone done one for $20xx Challenge before?

Yes. Yes very much.

Power? Also yes. Lots of Honda swaps available.

What would be the cheapest possible swap with Vtec and allow a turbo? I probably wouldnt want to do that right away though because I want this car to autocross with my girlfriend (she has a Mini).

In reply to DCharger68: Swap a D series vtec head on the existing block and do the wiring and other crap. Then piece together turbo parts, and either boost it til it blows(~200 whp) or slap aftermarket rods and pistons in it and turn it up to 11.

This. swapping from the DX wiring is more complicated, but still quite easy. These cars are so numerous that everything is documented pretty well on the web. Your motor choices boil down to this: Stock: 60,90,108 (HF,DX,Si) D series(1.5-1.7L)(stock architecture) Up to 130 with stock tuning. B series(1.6-2.0L) 130-210. The 180-210hp motors are easy to find, but not cheap, think $3-4K for that motor/trans combo add another $600 to get in in correctly K series(2.0-2.4L) 160-210hp, but much more torque and more potential. This is probably a $5-6K swap. Still well documented on places like K20a.org This combination is what Hollis is running in the one lap crx.

You haven't told us very much.

Before telling us about the model or condition (does it run??), we are already talking about motor swaps.

If it is a running SI, all it needs is a good set of tires.

Yes, they've been to the Challenge (including a V8 powered one).

Yes, they can autocross.

Yes, I've owned one, and hope to again.

And yes, you can probably compete against your girlfriend in her MINI.

Unless she's just a better driver than you!

A stock Civic CRX Si will beat every other car at the Autocross easily. Do it.

I've owned and autocrossed many of these cars. While I'm a big fan, your statement is highly inaccurate.

Well I'm not sure which trim it is. And I know all it needs is fresh fuel to run. A close friend owns it and has tried to sell it to me for years. I'll probably go look at it in the next few weeks. And I'm more looking at potential later on than doing an engine swap immediately.

A brand new '89 CRX DX five speed was one of the most enjoyable cars that I've ever driven. It felt so light that I didn't miss the extra power of the Si.

So I found out it's an SI with a non Vtec 1.6 and a 5 speed

Well if you don't want it I think there may be a few buyers here that want a crack at it.

Not too many, just all of us give or take. $200 is a steal for any condition crx these days.

A steal is quite an understatement.
