One of my best friends has just been transferred from South Korea to Oahu. She wasn't able to bring her car from Yongsan and needs to buy a basic commuter. She knows berk all about cars and has been asking advice from me, but I'm far away. She fears that someone is going to see her coming and sell her a POS for way too much.
Is there any chance an local GRMer could be on call to answer questions or help her look at something?

Don’t buy on the island. The salt air destroys them.
Take a trip to the main land, pick one up and ship it to Oahu. She’ll get a nicer vehicle with more choices.
My brother-in-law is stationed on at K-bay on Oahu. The base has auction lots of cars left by military personnel that decided not to ship them out.
I think he paid 1500 for a decent older Toyota Avalon. When they move in 2 years, it will be staying on the island.
