My thought on the SUV was that it's just nicer to drive everyday and I'd have inside storage for stuff that I want to keep nice. If I have a truck, even with a topper, I'll be throwing all sorts of dirty crap back there, then I'll never be able to put something I want to keep clean there.
Sounds like my choices are really limited though and a crew cab short box is the way to go...
