My sons is replacing a rear wheel bearing in his 2008 Suzuki SX4. It's AWD, so he'll need to remove the axle nut before removing the hub assembly.

My understanding is the axle nut is supposed to be single use, but I know I've reused them in the past  without any issues. In my efforts to provide guidance on the proper way to do the repair I'm trying to find a new axle nut.

The problem is no one lists a replacement for the rear, and the closest I can find is a post online that says the Dorman 615-115 (which doesn't list his car in the applications on the dorman site).

Anyone have any suggestions on where to get an axle nut or find the right part # or size? Do I risk it and order the Dorman part and cross my fingers? Or just reuse the original one after making sure the threads are in good shap where it was staked?

RockAuto lists the items you need...

You can verify the specs from the item details and cross those to the dorman part.

Edit: Just spotted those are Fronts not rears...

The rears seem to be missing from everyone's listings that I've checked.

The new axle didn't come with a new nut? From what I've seen the axles come with a new nut if it needs to be replaced.

Edit; I can't read evidently. I presumed you were replacing the axle, not the bearing. Carry on.

He's replacing the bearing/hub assembly and reusing the axle.

I never replaced an axle nut.

Does it use a cotter pin? Or some sort of locking washer like BMWs use?

If so, I'd replace those. Not the nut.

Also, this might be what you need if the front and rears are the same:

That's how I've typically done it, just reuse the old nut.

Since he's taking auto tech at school, and looking to work in the field after graduation, I'm trying to follow the recommended practices where possible.

I tried checking the spline dimensions on the new hub and the minor diameter is approx 23mm (the inside jaws on the calipers couldn't reach, so I had to estimate using the outside jaws), so an M22mm thread would be tight but could fit.

I'm tempted to order the Dorman M18-1.5 nut that was posted on a forum and the one from RA and hopefully one of those fits. Otherwise Well just reuse the old one.

On "staked" nuts what I have done before is swapping sides. So take the driver's side and put it in the passenger side, and vice versa.

The nut usually lands in a different spot and can be staked again.

That is brilliant. Thank you for the suggestion.
