What would win in a race, that '71 Plymouth Scamp or Nova?

The one with the least amount of Bondo?

Sorry couldn't help myself.

The one with the best complete package and competent driver of course.

The Mustang was 5k. Each of the Mercs was under a grand. A 400E that has already been released from the fleet and a '94 E420, which I really, really like. I am seriously considering stripping all the AMG bodykit shizzo off the 300E and putting it on the E420 and ditching the 300E.

Turned out that Nova in Atlanta was a over priced basket case. It would be a fair car for $2,500 but would need a lot of work. If I can afford a $5,500 car I think I should buy one instead of taking on a big project.

Are there any cruise nights or car shows in your area? How about any car clubs for muscle car stuff?

Keep squirreling away your cash. Find some GRMers in your area to hang out with and learn the basics you were looking to learn. Build up your skills and knowledge while building your budget. Then you'll really be ready.

That's a mighty odd mix. If your set on those (and there's nothing wrong with that) try posting a WTB ad. I'd be willing to bet that there are forums for each of those, too. Find out, register for them, and see if there is anything useful there.

Also I know a car guy in Raleigh if you need a contact for some reason.

This is good advice . Like I said that Nova is a good car for 2500 bucks it just isn't what you're looking for. Keep your money and go to shows in the spring. Everything has a price!
