How many of you have driven the double overdrive 6 speed that came in the old car?

This one has a triple overdrive 7 speed. They said 4th gear is 1:1.

You'd think that with 7 speeds they could have just done the double overdrive and split the real, usuable gear ratios into 5 speeds.

What are the race versions going to do, get custom internals to get a broader spread of usuable gears?

Also no one has mentioned the side strake/bulge/whatever across the bottom quarter of the door. I'm waiting to hear from you guys to see if I like it.

I like the strake across the bottom of the door.

I believe that a gearbox should have one overdrive gear at most.

With all this talk about heavier weight, has anyone taken into account the fact that they are using real interior materials this time around. Maybe the reason they used plastic interiors in the C5/C6 was to save weight. Now it has double stitched leather over plastic. You don't think that that isn't going to add weight? They probably added more sound deadening material as well along with the extra airbags etc.

In the end it adds up.

I am not in love with the exterior styling looks like it is trying to hard. Too many vents and such but I will reserve final judgment until I see it in real life. But still it is a proper American made sports car with a big V8 and a 3 pedal manual and the car doesn't weigh 2 tons. I mean come on.

Well, if you had read the post you were initially replying to, you would A: know that the "source" was GM themselves/the chief engineer and 2: that the base C7 is now called the Stingray. It's not a special edition or anything like that (like the Z51, Z06, etc), they just wanted to name the base car.

This may or may not help the discussion.( All from autoblog)

So the new C7 figures to weigh more-or-less the same as the C6, but engineers says they've taken pains to locate the weight in the right places to ensure 50/50 weight distribution.

I agree with everything you said in that post 100%, Bob. Those reasons are why I love Corvettes so much.

Again, please look at what I am actually writing. The fact that a C7 Stingray cribs nearly all of the weight-savings from the C6 Z06, and still weighs more than a base, steel-frame, C6, is a failure. That's it. Nothing else. The power/weight, fuel mileage, overall weight, etc are all still extremely good/world class/berking awesome, etc.

I am only disappointed with that one, tiny detail and apprehensive as to it's affect on the "lightweight" versions surely coming down the pike. I appreciate that GM did everything they could to keep the overall bloat down on the C7, but the fact they went to such drastic measures in one area, and still couldn't out-do the growth in the other, is not a good thing.

If you want a list I can give it to ya. I don't like:

Gill hood vent,

Power dome

Angular gurney bubbles

Combination of round and angles. Seems unnatural.

Rearend - anything about it.

Choped rear quarter window.

What I do like:

Brakes (they just look good)

Vents over the rear arches

Front clip from the Ferrari dealership they stole (Maybe GM is on an exchange program with Fiat now. Ferrari gets the shocks and Vette gets the nose.)

New Interior (although the knobs still look stock GM bits, but way better than before, except in that gawd aweful red. ewwww)

Door handles.

No one questions the cars performance by numbers. The C5+ has been delivering those numbers and backing them up, but the styling of the new Vette, as a whole IMHO, screams "I have a small penis and lots of money!!!"

I loved the C5 subtle, with muscular overtones, the C6 got a little to far but was livable, this is just like "BERKLEY YOU Aventador!!! GM builds the most ostentatious car!!!" It isn't pretty, sexy or svelte. It is perversion.

The new Vette is like taking a porn star to a wet T-Shirt contest, It wins not because it is the best in the competition, which it could be, but because you know what it does with the judges. And you aren't going to fool anyone about your intentions either.

The C6 base weighs 3208lbs. The Z06 weighs 3175lbs according to Chevy's website. That is a whooping 33lbs difference. I am sure Chevy won't be able to figure out how to lose that...

Most that study design, thought the C5 to be a marginal design. The C6 has been very well regarded. This new car is a contemporary update that very nicely brings the Corvette design parity with similar performing vehicles. The Corvette has always been about distinctive and muscular styling. The 63, 68,84,99 and 06 have all provided bold statements. This car is no different. Your statement referencing sex organs and income is ludicrous.

Did he publish the official numbers? No. He said:

In fact, the weight of the base car "will be slightly up," Juechter says.

That's your quote. He does not say 100lbs, he doesn't even mention a number at all. A DIFFERENT source GUESSES it MIGHT be 100lb more.

So no, we don't know anything for sure yet and getting pissy about it is ridiculous. To say that the car is a fail because of unpublished weight is even more ridiculous.

I've never had a passenger that light. But it is the weight of about 15-16 gallons of gas.

If it makes you feel better, I think the Ferrari says the same thing about masculinity as well.

But then again I am an Engineer. Traditionally the 911 wins with us on the performance car of choice.

It's about half of my morning bowel movement, in the grand scheme of things. I don't really notice a 120lb passenger in my Miata, so i really don't expect the 100lbs (if that even happens) to be noticeable in the slightest in the vette, especially considering the host of other improvements that have been made.

Dude, a 150lb passenger didn't affect the 1800lb, 100hp Swift. I can imagine that adding 100lbs to a car that already makes a ridiculous amount of power (and it also got a power bump) isn't going to matter.
