2 things: 1. mpg will never get better. 2. VW is being recommended as an alternative option due to better reliability.

What about a CRV/RAV4? Don't some of the Rav's do 14 sec 1/4 miles? If I was on a budget with a toddler that would be my choice. Easy to sell in a few years if needs change. There's the Lancer wagon, and the matrix, venza, accord crosstour (not sure if they're big enough).
Rough to see a Magnum described as malaise era & then think about when/if it ever ended.
While I LOVED the Magnum when it was new, I feel that it didn't age too well. The Hemi and drivetrain are fine, but everything else around it is the problem. I sat in one once, and I felt like I was in the rubber tote aisle at Target. Everything was hard plastic, huge, and unforgiving. Maybe a SRT8 would be better, but the regular one I sat in did nothing for me. I do wish they continued these in wagon form after the 2011 refresh when everything got significantly better inside and out on the Charger.
I found another for sale on my local CL. This one is for sale in Holiday, FL (north of Clearwater). Its a 2007 R/T with only 89k miles from one owner. This is the cleanest one I have seen in a long time. You can tell it has been taken care of.

According to NADA and KBB, it is about $2.5-3k overpriced but it is in really nice shape.

That odometer font/color gave me bad flashbacks to an old Caravan. Good luck man, this thing screams p71 to me

Lol, blue book fail. You can pretty much never find a nice Magnum R/T for less than 8k.

I don't disagree with you. I was kinda shocked when it said private party value was $5800-$6800. Most in that range are base 2.7L (shudder) cars with a zillion hard miles. I have seen one R/T at a BHPH dealer for $5500 that was absolutely trashed.
